Emma Martin is an experienced criminal practitioner, called to the Bar in 2002. She defends and prosecutes all types of cases in the Crown, Magistrates' and Youth Courts.

Emma has conducted cases involving serious sexual offences against children, including those committed by young people; homicide offences (being led in a multi-handed murder and having sole conduct of a manslaughter case), blackmail, numerous cases of assault, burglary and theft as well as drugs and firearm offences.

Emma is comfortable dealing with cases which involve vulnerable people, either as defendants or witnesses and has conducted many trials which involve the use of special measures (including a trial in which the elderly witnesses gave evidence via a live link to their home.)

Emma also regularly conducts appeals against the revocation of shotgun and firearm certificates on behalf of Avon and Somerset Constabulary. A number of the firearm licensing cases which Emma has dealt with have been particularly involved and have required evidence to be given ex parte in camera.

Emma has recently begun to undertake courts martial work and was instructed as a junior in a three-week court martial trial at Bulford Military Court Martial Centre. The case was serious and involved several complex legal arguments on issues of admissibility and character.
